Eidos Explains Why Stephen Russell Isn’t In Thief

David Hayter, the iconic voice of Solid Snake from the Metal Gear franchise, isn’t the only voice actor who won’t be reprising his famous role. Stephen Russell will not be appearing as Garrett in the upcoming Thief game.  Eidos Montreal, the Developer behind Theif, explained their reasoning in a recent interview with Eurogamer.

While Russell was considered for the role, and actually started recording some early dialogue, there’s a familiar reason why a change was made; the developer wanted to use full motion capture, and Russell didn’t quite look the part. The reason this sounds so familiar is because the same thing was done with Splinter Cell: Blacklist.

While it’s disappointing to see our favorite voices go away, hopefully the new Thief title will still be enjoyable.
