Fight Night Champion Announced

Fight Night Champion Announced

None

While announcing a new game in a long-running series isn’t exactly unexpected, it becomes more interesting when major changes are said to be involved. Today EA announced Fight Night Champion for the PS3 and Xbox 360, and the first big change for the game is that it isn’t named Fight Night Round 5. However, when talking with IGN, developer EA Canada promised that Champion would certainly be a full sequel stating it would be “the full meal deal with desert and a toy. The whole enchilada. All that and a bag…”

Further discussing the game EA Canada claimed “Fight Night Champion will break the mold of what is expected in a single-player sports game. Players will be introduced to an entirely new way to step between the ropes and experience the drama, emotion, excitement and tragedy of world championship boxing.” However, no further details were given about this statement’s meaning, other than a declaration from producer Brian Hayes that “it’s something people won’t expect from an EA Sports game.”

Champion is also said to have a new “Full Spectrum Punch Control” that will have a dramatic effect on gameplay. This new control system was said to provide both “the most realistic punching system ever seen” as well as “the most user-friendly title in the franchise’s history.” Given the series’ track record, fans should probably expect Champion to be another great boxing experience when it is released sometime in 2011.
