Final Fantasy VII Remake Needs a Year for Preparations

Final Fantasy VII Remake Needs a Year for Preparations

When Square Enix announced the Final Fantasy VII remake at last year’s E3, everyone lost their minds. This is a dream come true for all FFVII fans and as soon as the hype died down, we had to admit to ourselves that it would likely be years before we actually played the game, with Q4 2017 sounding like a rather optimistic prediction. That all changed when we discovered that the game would be released across multiple installments; not as episodes, but as multiple, full-length games. Soon after that we heard that production was under way and that the development team already had the first installment all mapped out. Throw some gameplay footage into the mix and new hope is born. Could we see the first installment in 2016?

Sadly, the answer is no. In the latest issue of Famitsu (via Gematsu ) producer Yoshinori Kitase said the following: “This year will still be a preparation year for Final Fantasy VII Remake . I want to create new value for the PlayStation 4 hardware for our next debut.” That second sentence seems to indicate that Kitase will be taking his time in order to assure a quality release. In the same segment it’s hinted that Square Enix has some big surprises for fans this year, so hopefully 2016 will be a year full of anticipation and great news for Final Fantasy nerds like myself.
