The Hyperdimension Neptunia series is a quirky franchise of Japanese RPGs that parody, or at least ground themselves in, the console wars. Many of the characters serve as manifestations of famous gaming hardware. The first game was pretty terrible from a gameplay perspective, though the concept was interesting enough to prompt a pair of much-improved sequels.
Now that first game is coming to the Vita, but it will be entirely overhauled. Hyperdimension Neptunia Re:Birth1 will meld the game mechanics of the latest title, Hyperdimension Neptunia Victory, with new art, new dialogue, and new event scenes. Only the plot itself, and the characters involved, will remain intact, though that is being revised as well.
Currently, this title is only confirmed for Japan, where it will be launching on October 31. Hopefully we can look forward to an English localization sometime in 2014.
