Inscryption is a unique blend of roguelike, deck-building, and puzzle gameplay developed by Daniel Mullins Games. The independent studio released it for PC in 2021 and various consoles the next year. It is now available for all the popular gaming platforms, including the latest iterations of both PlayStation and Xbox. The game features a mysterious world where players are drawn into a dark cabin to play a tabletop game. The game is unique in that it combines genres, such as strategy and adventure, in innovative ways while presenting an intriguing backstory. In this article, we’ll take a look at the game’s premise, characters, and, naturally, cheats, tips, and tricks.
Inscryption Premise
Inscryption puts players in the shoes of a character trapped in a game orchestrated by a shadowy figure named Leshy. The gameplay revolves around a card-based tabletop game, but it’s much more than just deck-building. Players must solve puzzles, make strategic decisions, and uncover the secrets hidden within the cabin they are confined to. The game evolves through different acts, each with new challenges and gameplay dynamics.
Inscryption’s world combines elements of horror, mystery, and strategy to create a thrilling and addictive experience. The narrative pulls the player in and the gameplay keeps players hooked, requiring them to piece together the story from in-game events and clues. It’s a game that constantly keeps players guessing and new revelations come with twists and turns as players enter deeper into the complex and mysterious world of the Inscryption.
Inscryption Characters
Inscryption features a cast of intriguing characters within both the game world and in the cards. The main character, Luke Carder, is an internet content creator specializing in card games. He discovers the Inscryption game, which sets off the events in the game. Another key figure is Leshy, the shadowy gamemaster who challenges the player in the cabin. There are also various sentient cards that take a role in the story.
- Luke Carder: A card game enthusiast, known as The Lucky Carder, who stumbles upon the Inscryption game, leading to the unfolding of the story.Â
- Leshy: The mysterious gamemaster controlling the cabin’s tabletop game, posing challenges and obstacles for the player. The player has to beat Leshy’s game to capture him.
- Stoat: A sentient card found early in the game, Stoat plays a role in guiding the player. It offers strategic advice during card battles and helps solve puzzles within Leshy’s cabin.
- Stinkbug: Another sentient card, Stinkbug also provides hints and insights, which are likely useful to advancing. Use its help in puzzle-solving and in revealing game mechanics.
- Stunted Wolf: The Stunted Wolf is also a sentient card that can help players with the challenges later in the storyline. Players will find it useful in learning about the mysteries of the cabin, and ultimately beating Leshy’s game.
Games in the Series
Inscryption is a standalone game, drawing inspiration from Sacrifices Must Be Made, a simpler prototype developed by Daniel Mullins a few years earlier. This game does not belong to a series, at least not yet. However, the game has been expanded by a free DLC called Kaycee’s Mod.

Inscryption Cheats
Inscryption is an adventure game, which doesn’t have traditional cheats. Even with a cheat code system missing, there are ways to make the game easier for beginners and those looking to get everything out of the game. To make collecting all achievements on Xbox and trophies on PlayStation easier, we’ve collected a list of them below. There’s also a cheat that allows accessing all achievements on Steam very easily, let’s take a look at that first.
Unlock All Steam Achievements
There’s a simple way to get all the Steam achievements available to the PC version of Inscyrption with very little work and no requirements within the game. The game is storing achievement information in a very simple format offline, which allows changing the data and unlocking all the achievements in just few minutes, or less.
Simple find the install folder of the game, usually something like “../Steam/steamapps/common/Inscryption,” and open up SaveFile.gwsave with Notepad or similar editor. Now, change the number after $rlength to 40, marking the total number of achievements in the game. Then, change the list of numbers after $rcontent to include all numbers from 0 to 39, separated by commas, ie. “1, 2, 3, … 48, 49, 50.” After this is done, save the file and launch the game. You should now get all the achievements.
Fair Hand Mechanic
There are various mechanics that take advantage of the game rules in a way that makes the game much easier. Winning card games comes much easier if you know some of them. Fair Hand is one of the better ones and can be used with the Black Goat deck. This mechanic allows the player to draw a card that has a Blood cost of 0 or 1, and by including just one of these cards in the deck, it allows always the players to draw a card on the first turn.
In the Black Goat deck, this is simple to do with a Sigil Sacrifice on the Mole, leaving just the Black Goat as the singular card to draw. After this is done, Black Goat will be in the starting hand every single time. This already makes the deck much better, but to make it nearly invincible, seek for a Cockroach card to add the unkillable Sigil onto the Black Goat.
Map Reset
Sometimes defeating a boss and advancing to a new map can be discouraging. Getting a super bad roll on upcoming events is never nice. However, there’s a simple way to reset the map and get a potentially much better roll. To do this, simply press the pause, exit to the Start Screen, and select Continue Run. Now, you’ve got a new map with changed events. However, this seems only possible straight after moving to a new map.
