Minecraft A Temporary Xperia Play Exclusive

Minecraft A Temporary Xperia Play Exclusive

None

Minecraft, the smash indie hit from solo developer Markus “Notch” Persson, has already seen its share of imitators on the iOS. Now, the game’s developer has spoken out and announced a “Pocket Edition” of his addictive and sprawling building-block sandbox.

Confirmed for the Android operation system, initial video has been shown of the title running on an Xperia Play, informally known as the “Playstation Phone,” where it makes use of the device’s gamepad interface to great effect. Perhaps most surprising, though, is that the title is, at least for the time being, exclusive to that device.

There is evidence, however, that this pocket-sized building engine will eventually be ported to other devices; the engine is brand new, apparently a conceit of Notch’s desire to eventually port it to the iOS. In the meantime, though, for anyone who has an Xperia Play (we know you’re out there), Minecraft – Pocket Edition will be demoed at E3. It will support multiplayer in “LAN environments” that will allow one to “invite players to join and edit the world you have on your phone.”
