Miyamoto’s Mario Myths Confirms Super Mario 3’s a Play

Miyamoto’s Mario Myths Confirms Super Mario 3’s a Play

To promote Super Mario Maker , which is coming to the Wii U on September 11, Nintendo decided to focus on the star. The company brought in Shigeru Miyamoto, Mario’s creator, to talk about some myths people had about the games. Really, it’s a question and answer segment with one important revelation – Super Mario 3 was a play all along.

Here’s the full segment.

Being a little over a minute, a lot of information isn’t revealed. Mostly questions appear on screen and Miyamoto nods yes or shakes his head no. For instance, he confirmed that Mario was named for the Nintendo of America warehouse owner Mario Segale. But the confirmation that the third Super Mario game is in fact a show, hinted at by the opening curtain on the title screen, environmental decorations bolted to and hanging from backgrounds, and ability to go off stage at the end of the level, is pretty important.

Also, Bob-ombs don’t become Boos when they die. Because that’s important too.
