Nintendo Annual Report Affirms March Launch for NX

Nintendo Annual Report Affirms March Launch for NX

We’ve got a bit of reassuring news today after Nintendo published its 2016 Annual Report. There are two tidbits of particular interest. The first is that Nintendo’s next home console, the NX, is still set for a March 2017 launch. From the report: “Nintendo is also devoted to the development of a gaming platform codenamed “NX” with a brand-new concept, which will be launched in March 2017 globally.” Nintendo’s silence and lack of disclosure in regard to its new console had led some to believe that the launch would be pushed back, possibly due to Microsoft and Sony releasing newer, more powerful consoles of their own. It’s nice to know we can put those fears behind us (for now).

What I found to be even more interesting was the fact that Nintendo’s QOL initiative, first proposed by the late Satoru Iwata, was still in the works. “Moreover, Nintendo is working on the development of a new product that improves people’s QOL (Quality of Life) in enjoyable ways. Nintendo’s aim is to enable consumers to make daily efforts to improve their QOL in a fun manner by making sleep and fatigue status visible and offering various services based on this information.” There was no information suggesting when we might see the first fruits of this QOL research, but I’m eager to see what Nintendo cooks up. Stay tuned for more updates on Nintendo’s newest products!
