Nividia GTX 1060 Debuts Later This Month for $250

Nividia GTX 1060 Debuts Later This Month for $250

Guys, we’re entering into the golden age of affordable GPUs that don’t suck. With the introduction of Nvidia and AMD’s new GPU architectures (Pascal and Polaris, respectively), we’re seeing graphics cards with better performance and less power-draw being offered for low prices. Nividia has just revealed its GTX 1060 which, make no mistake, is intended to dominate the mid-range GPU market and compete directly with AMD’s new RX 480. The 480 is being marketed as the perfect card for budget-driven gamers, offering a roughly $250 card that is more than capable of pushing max settings at 1080p and offering an affordable option for VR.

AMD, it seemed, had that market and budget-driven demographic cornered. The 1060 is set to offer some potentially devastating competition. This card is reported to perform as well as the GTX 980, a $500 card, while consuming only 120 watts of power. The kicker? This card will cost about the same as AMD’s RX 480 – about $250. The 1060 features 1,280 CUDA cores, 6GB of DDR5 memory running at 8Gbps, and a clock speed of 1.7GHz (which can be overclocked to 2GHz). Make no mistake, if you’re looking for the perfect 1080p / 1440p gaming card, this could be the clear winner. We’ll have to wait for some proper benchmarks before we draw any conclusions, though, so look for those once the embargo drops on July 19.
