Red Dead Redemption took years to develop. In fact, Rockstar Games wasn’t sure the ambitious title would ever turn a profit despite its quality. Well, apparently those fears were unfounded. Today, on Take-Two Interactive’s Q2 financial call, CEO Strauss Zelnick announced that the publisher has already shipped 5 million units of the game worldwide. 5 million is an important number because it means the game is actually profitable despite the company’s massive initial and ongoing investments. Moreover, Take-Two and Rockstar can expect the game to continue to sell over the next couple of years thanks to its stratospheric Metacritic score of 95 — GTA IV is approaching the 20 million unit mark worldwide. Expect this franchise to see another release in the next couple of years. |
