Rocksmith’s Title Causes Legal Trouble

Rocksmith’s Title Causes Legal Trouble

None

You know, it always sucks when a game is delayed due to any reason other than “let’s make the best game we possibly can.” Rocksmith, the brand new rhythm game that actually teaches you how to play a real electric guitar, is being delayed in Europe for perhaps the furthest thing from an overall push for excellence: trademark disputes. The law strikes again!

It turns out there’s a band in the UK that goes by the name “Rocksmith.” While here in America, the game’s name is just an interesting play on words, over in the UK it’s a cause for a legal dispute.

Kris Ford, the band’s leader, claims that he wanted to keep the dispute out of courts. Apparently, he told them, “We could promote the game, you could promote the band—we’ll even give you some songs to put on there.” According to Ford, they just ignored him.

So he filed a formal opposition and now the whole thing is one gigantic ball of threats and legal action that just doesn’t look like it is clearing up any time soon, all over one stupid name.

Wait a minute. Isn’t Rocksmith the name of a clothing line here in the US?

Uh oh.
