Alright guys, we have a fresh NX rumor coming through the grapevine, and it’s promising for those who, like me, are hoping to get their hands on Nintendo’s new console next year. To begin, for those of you who haven’t been keeping up, let me get you up to speed concerning the juiciest and most credible rumors that have surfaced so far. Rumor has it that AMD is supplying the APU for Nintendo’s new console, and we’re pretty sure that the rest of the internals have been decided on because according to the Wall Street Journal, developers are already working with NX software development kits. When we heard that the SDKs had been sent out the question arose: could we see the NX in 2016?
As unorthodox as it would be to reveal, promote, and distribute a new console in such a short span of time, in such a strange point in the lifecycle of competing consoles, we got another juicy tidbit today, this time from DigiTimes, suggesting that Nintendo is aiming to ship up to 20 million units by the end of 2016. “The new console is estimated to enter mass shipments in the second quarter. In addition to Foxconn, suppliers such as Foxconn Technology, Macronix, Pixart Imaging, Coxon Precise Industrial, Nishoku Technology, Delta Technology, Lingsen Precision Industries and Jentech will also supply components for the device.” Apparently upstream component suppliers are only expecting shipment of 10-12 million units in 2016, but that’s still a great number. Foxconn Electronics, mentioned in the quote above, refused to comment on the matter which seems encouragingly suspicious to me, as they would have no issue with straight up denying the report if not in a contract with Nintendo.
