Spider-Man Reboot Details Emerge

Sony made some exciting announcements during its panel at CinemaCon yesterday (Wednesday). We learned the title of the upcoming, standalone Spider-Man movie: Homecoming . The word homecoming was indicated to have a couple of meanings. For one, it’s acknowledging Spider-Man’s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe were he belongs, and it also hints at a more pedestrian focus for this next film. The Peter Parkers of films past have always been of high school age, but Homecoming wants to focus more on Peter Parker the awkward high schooler, and maybe a little less on Spider-Man.

During the panel, star Tom Holland stated that in the movie Parker will be struggling to find his own identity and decipher his role in the world. It’s not all teenage angst and melodrama, though. This is a Marvel movie, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has confirmed that multiple Avengers will make an appearance in the film. In fact, in a special clip premiered during the panel, the audience got to see Tony Stark visiting Parker in his home. The reason for his visit is unclear, but we’ll definitely gain some insight as to the nature of Stark and Parker’s relationship in Captain America: Civil War, which comes out May 6.
