System Shock 2 Comes To GOG.com

System Shock 2 Comes To GOG.com

One of the most atmospheric and terrifying titles in the entire PC-gaming oeuvre is coming to the digital download sector tomorrow. Courtesy of GOG.com, the CD Projekt storefront has struck an exclusive deal that will allow them to sell System Shock 2, the spiritual precursor to BioShock and BioShock Infinite.

The reason behind System Shock 2’s storied past stems from an odd publishing arrangement that split the game’s rights from its trademark, resulting in a game that could not be rereleased in any capacity without cooperation between those holding each piece of the puzzle.

According to Guillaume Rambourg, of GOG.com, this is a project they’ve been working on since the website’s inception. It took an interested third party, Stephen Nick of Night Dive, to bring those rights holders together around the promise of digital distribution, but the countdown on GOG.com’s front page is evidence enough. SHODAN is coming home to roost.
