As detailed in an FAQ that was published on Thursday, July 17, Electronic Arts has announced that it has officially ceased support for The Sims 2 series, meaning that the series has been put into retirement and will thus lose all its technical support.
Not to fret however, as anyone who owns a digital copy of The Sims 2 will receive a copy of The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection –which includes every single expansion and additional pieces of content that has been released for the game–absolutely free via Origin.
Anyone who already owns a digital copy of The Sims 2 will receive the Ultimate Collection within the next five days. The Ultimate Collection itself will be handed out to any player who has purchased and registered a digital version of The Sims 2 .
“ Players who already have registered digital download versions of The Sims 2 and/or The Sims 2 Expansion Packs in their Origin Game Library will have The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection added to their collection automatically. To see if you qualify, launch Origin and check your Game Library. If The Sims 2 is in your Origin Game Library, then you will receive the upgrade to The Sims 2 Ultimate Edition,” EA writes in its FAQ.
“ This upgrade to The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection is only available to gamers who purchased the digital version of The Sims 2 from Origin or The EA Store. Owners of physical disc versions of The Sims are not currently eligible for this offer. ”
