If you haven’t heard of full-motion video, that’s because there haven’t been many games made with the live-action style of gameplay. The only ones that come to mind recently are The Bunker and Her Story . The latter did extremely well, while the former had mixed reveiws. Generally, most FMV games came out in the late 80’s, or during the 90’s. Even then they were hit or miss depending on the title, and who you asked.
There’s one such game however, that’s taken their history and decided to celebrate it. Night Trap released originally on Sega CD and other long-gone platforms in 1992. It didn’t last long though, as sellers began removing it from their stores soon after release. It would seem the story of a peeping tom spying on teen girls didn’t really sit well with everyone. (Imagine that.)
Even still, the short-lived title is excited to announce their 25th anniversary. With it, the game will be re-released for brand new audiences to experience. Night Trap will be releasing physical copies of their game on PlayStation 4 on August 11. On August 15, digital versions will hit PlayStation 4s and PC. The physical edition of Night Trap will be available in standard and collector’s editions. If you get the collector’s edition, you’ll get a cassette tape with the game’s theme song, a patch, and a poster with the game itself. There is an Xbox One version of Night Trap in development as well, but there’s no current release date for it.
No matter which version of Night Trap you decide to track down, you’ll get a behind-the-scenes documentary, deleted scenes, and theater mode all within the game. The theater mode will allow players to watch the cutscenes from within the game without having to pay attention to what to do next. If you’re looking for something quirky, then you’ve definitely found it in the 25th anniversary celebration of Night Trap .
