A Modern Guide To Game Shark and Code Breaker Cheats

When it comes to using cheat codes in video games, many gamers remember the classic methods. Password screens and button commands like the Konami code are some of the most memorable ways to input codes, but they are nowhere near the only way to customize a game to your liking. GameShark and CodeBreaker offer another option. Game Shark and Code Breaker both require their respective devices to be used on physical hardware, but they unlock an alternative way to cheat.

What are Game Shark & Code Breaker?

GameShark is a cheat device designed specifically for the PlayStation 1 (PS1), PlayStation 2 (PS2), and other retro consoles, such as the Game Boy. It works by intercepting the game’s code at a low level and allowing for player interference while the game is running. CodeBreaker works similarly to the GameShark, except it was made specifically for the PS2 and PlayStation 3 (PS3). CodeBreaker usually has more code selection; however, this depends on the game itself.

How To Use A Game Shark

  1. First, you insert the Game Shark device, typically a disc or cartridge, depending on the console, into your console of choice.
  2. The codes on the Game Shark are usually preloaded, but you can also input them manually. These codes are hexadecimal numbers dedicated to specific memory values within a particular game.
  3. After entering your cheat codes or choosing the ones you want to enable, you will be prompted to swap out the Game Shark disc for the original game disc. Once the game is loaded, the cheat codes enabled will use the modified memory values to apply your cheats.

How To Use Code Breaker

Code Breaker is used in the same way as Game Shark. However, a key difference is the support of cheat engine files, which can be found online. This allows you to easily share codes or even apply a large number of cheats at once.

How to Use Game Shark & Code Breaker Codes On Emulators

  1. First, you start the emulator and load the original game as usual.
  2. In the settings of the emulator, there should be a setting to enable cheats, and you’ll be able to input the Game Shark and Code Breaker codes. Where this setting is located will depend on the emulator, but most modern emulators support it.
  3. Once the codes have been entered, the emulator will apply the cheats directly.
  4. There’s no need to swap discs since both the game and the cheats are loaded digitally.
