A Return To Single Player Mario Is Likely

A Return To Single Player Mario Is Likely

Even though Super Mario 3D World was enjoyable at E3, it wasn’t the 3D Mario title that most people were expecting. Many Wii U owners and Nintendo fans were disappointed that a Mario Galaxy-style game wasn’t revealed during the show. However, just because it wasn’t announced at E3 doesn’t necessarily rule out the possibility of a similar game in the future.

Shigeryu Miyamoto recently revealed some interesting details regarding 3D Mario games. He said that the focus on Super Mario 3D World ’s multiplayer created a balance between the openness of a traditional 3D Mario game with the sidescrolling style of New Super Mario Bros . It’s a balance between the two types of games.

Having played several levels of 3D World, this is a statement I’d agree with.

Miyamoto also commented on the future of a traditional, single-player 3D Mario title:

“But we still have, obviously, the Galaxy series, and there’s a possibility that in the future we may look to explore what else we can do with the Galaxy series. For us, it was really about trying to find the right 3d Mario space in which we’re going to allow the widest audience to play.”
