There are all sorts of studies and anecdotes out there saying constantly sitting can be bad for you. (Which is something that gamers may end up doing a lot of.) Likewise, continually standing could be an issue too and tiring. (Something else gamers may do, if they have a VR headset.) Well Jumpsport, the company behind the Wurf Board , is preparing the AlleyOOP Ergonomic Rocker. This is a board you stand on to promote blood flow, remain more comfortable while standing for long periods, and perhaps also perform minor exercises.
If the AlleyOOP Ergonomic Rocker sounds familiar, it might be because you saw it on KickStarter . The project launched in September 2018 and was successfully funded, resulting in the creation of the first omni-directional rocking board with 360 degree movement. Also, it is another in a line of various boards and rockers popping up to make standing for long periods of time easier as things like standing desks become more popular in workplaces.
The AlleyOOP Ergonomic Rocker is very easy to use. People first get a 22” x 12” x 1.8” medium or 25” x 14” x 1.8” board, which has a flat top and arched bottom. You then put it on the ground and stand as you normally would on top of it. Then, it automatically starts working. Because of the arched bottom, you will constantly be making micromovements that eliminate the aches and pains that may be associated with standing in place for thirty minutes or longer. The bottom is made of clear TPU plastic, to reduce the chance of scuffing or damaging the floor beneath you as you move.
This could be a product that would work well for gamers in two ways. One is for people who tend to have marathon gaming sessions in front of a console or computer. If you get tired of sitting, you could put down an AlleyOOP Rocker and stand for a half hour or so, playing instead. Since you would be focused on the game, you might not even notice the micromovements. If someone is using, say, an HTC Vive or Oculus Rift headset, they would need to be standing to properly turn, move, and experience the game. But, standing for a long time would be uncomfortable. Doing so on this rocker would allow you to maybe be more relaxed, and its curved bottom might make it easier for you to spin and move to check out a different direction.
Especially since Jumpsport already established how easy it could be to move around while on an AlleyOOP Rocker. It is known as a walkable model, since someone could shift their weight and pitch forward while on it to actually move around. Twisting, either to perform a swivel core burn exercise or to actually turn a bit, is another possible action people could take. This means it seems like you could safely and easily move around as you play, perhaps performing certain repetitive motions as a form of light exercise.
The AlleyOPP Ergonomic Rocker is a means of keeping you comfortable when you are in a position where you might want to or have to stand for an extended period of time. Think of it as an option if you feel like you are spending too much time sitting down while gaming and want to spend more time on your feet. With one of these, you could get your blood pumping
