Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs have been two game franchises that seemed very remotely linked. Fans have always considered the two universes might actually be the same. Turns out, Ubisoft has put something in Assassin’s Creed: Origins to lend credence to those rumors once again.
The story starts with Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and the original Watch Dogs . Both relate to the city of Chicago. It’s here, in both games, that the CEO of Abstergo Industries (Olivier Garneau) comes to visit. In Black Flag , characters are aware of Garneau before he heads to Chicago. In Watch Dogs , the main character (Aiden Pearce) can kill Garneau when he’s visiting.
This was always marked up as just a fun, interesting little cross-over, but now, Assassin’s Creed: Origins has made it all too real. If you take the time to track down the laptop in the modern sections of Assassin’s Creed: Origins , peek into the files a little bit. With some level of searching, it’s possible to find a photo from a security camera that shows Aiden Pearce standing over Olivier Garneau’s dead body. Looks like this wasn’t just a cute little nod, but rather series’ canon.
Will this lead to a full cross-over game between Assassin’s Creed and Watch Dogs in the future? It’s hard to say, but for now it’s a great Easter egg to hunt down.
