We Need Back-Up: How to Update the CAS Background in Sims 4

One of the crowning jewels in the sprawling virtual world of The Sims 4 is the Create-a-Sim feature. With this tool, players aren’t simply deciding on mundane details like hair length or eye color. They are granted free reign to create an avatar through which they experience the nearly infinite possibilities that the game presents. The player breathes life into a new persona with every slide of a cheekbone and every choice of accessory. But what does one do when you want to sneak a screenshot of your creation in a situation that isn’t a single color void? How do you go about changing the background to something as imaginative as the creative process that the player has just undertaken? It’s a lot easier than you think.

How to Change Your Create-a-Sim Background

Follow these steps and you’ll have a background that better reflects your creativity in just a few minutes.

  • Find a Backdrop that Suites Your Style: Set the stage for your Sims creation by simply scouring search engines for the content in question. In this instance, you would search for “The Sims 4” and “CAS Backgrounds” or “Create a Sim Backgrounds” and peruse the results. A great place to start would be a website that dedicates itself to The Sims content site ala The Sims Resource.
  • Secure Your Scene: Once you find a background that speaks to your aesthetic click download and you’re off to races.
  • Unpack Your Background: The background files are usually archives such as Zip or Rar files. You must unpack downloads in order to utilize the content.
  • Move to Mods: Copy or move the unzipped file in to the Mods directory found within The Sims 4 folder on your computer. Generally tucked under Documents / Electronic Arts / The Sims 4 / Mods, this folder can be organized by sub-folders specifying the mod type.
  • Make Sure the Game Settings Are Conducive to Modifications: Start up your copy of The Sims 4 and check the game options. Under the “Other” tab you will see “Enable Custom Content and Mods” and “Script Mods Allowed” options. Make sure both you check both options or else your work thus far has been all for naught.
  • Reboot Your The Sims 4: With everything in place, you will have to restart your game in order for the changes to take effect.
  • Enjoy Your New Background: You will now see the chose background once you enter the world of Create-a-Sim.
