Atlus Unveils New Persona 4 Arena Ultimax Trailer Featuring Junpei

Atlus has unveiled yet another character trailer for Persona 4 Arena Ultimax . The character they are showcasing this time is Junpei Iori. Junpei is an aggressive character with perhaps the strangest meter management system in the history of fighting games. Above his meter is a baseball diamond and a baseball count. Every time Junpei manages to hit the opponent with an attack that uses his bat, a runner will get on base. Every time Junpei whiffs with his bat, he gets a strike. Every time the opponent blocks a bat attack, he gets a ball. Finally, every time Junpei gets damaged or thrown, he gets an out.

Junpei’s goal is to score runs. The easiest way to score runs is to load the bases and get another runner on base. However, he can also use his “home run” super, and if it connects he will score a run for every runner on base as well as Junpei himself, and the bases will empty. He can also score runs by getting 4 balls, although if he manages to get three outs, the bases will empty. Complicated right?

Well, if Junpei succeeds in gaining 10 runs, he goes into “victory mode.” In this mode Junpei is faster, stronger, and gets increased combo-ability. He also gains passive HP and SP regeneration which only gets even better as he scores more and more runs. He is an incredibly wonky character, but fun to use and powerful if you can get the hang of him.
