Breaking: Halo 5 Sold Really Well

This just in: Halo 5: Guardians sold really, really well. We all knew this would be a hit, but Microsoft and 343 Industries want you to know just how successful this launch was. Records were broken; numbers were shattered; high-strung developers probably got smashed afterward. I’m about throw a lot of records and a lot of “millions” your way. Are you ready?

This was not only the fastest-selling Xbox One game to date, but also the biggest and most successful Halo launch. In the first week Halo 5 brought in over $400 million in software and related hardware sales. What does that look like in terms of gameplay? Fans have spent over 21 million hours playing Halo 5 so far. That’s as impressive as it is alarming. What’s somewhat ironic is the fact that, despite the unpopularity of the Requisition System, players have unlocked over 45 million REQ packs, either by unlocking them in-game or by purchasing them. Halo 5: Live also scored a Guinness World Record for the most watched video game launch broadcast, tallying 5.5 million views across 330,000 unique streams.

Phil Spencer is psyched. He said that Halo 5 “…represents all the possibilities of Xbox One and has earned its place as the anchor title in the greatest holiday games lineup in Xbox history.” Congrats, 343 Industries, you’ve won.
