City Of Heroes Offers Its Players Financial Freedom

City Of Heroes Offers Its Players Financial Freedom

None

The landscape of super-hero MMORPGs is changing. Earlier this year, Cryptic Studios’ Champions Online introduced a free-to-play model. Now, the company’s first entry (now under the auspices of Paragon Studios) is following suit. With the next major game update, City of Heroes will become City of Heroes Freedom, introducing a tiered payment model.

At the free level, players will be able to play all the way up to level 50, but will be limited in which archetypes and power sets they can choose. Extra missions, including the Going Rogue expansion, will be purchasable. They will not be able to join super groups (City of Heroes’ guild equivalent) and will have to purchase access to the Mission Architect.

While subscribers, here called VIP players, will have full access to the game (and an additional monthly stipend of Paragon Points to spend on extra costume parts and bonuses), the most interesting tier might be the Premium level. Those who have previously purchased game time will retain access to content they have previously purchased, such as costume packs and character slots, as well as a measure of super group functionality. The full comparison chart can be found at the City of Heroes website.
