Is it fair to tax games due to their content? William Fourkiller, Oklahoma State Representative, thinks so. He has proposed a new law placing a one percent tax on any game rated Teen or above by the ESRB. The money raised by this new law would go toward programs that would help prevent bullying and childhood obesity. “Violent video games contribute to some of our societal problems like obesity and bullying, but because they raise a lot of revenue, they can also provide part of the solution,” Fourkiller said. So it appears he, like many other people, is vilifying video games as a longstanding social problem.
