I’m going to give you guys the tl;dr scoop right off the bat so you know what we’re getting into. Innelec Multimedia is a multimedia distribution company based out of France. According to earnings reports from multiple sources, Innelec Multimedia expects the “Neo 4K” to hit shelves within the first half of its current financial year, which would conclude at the end of September. We can’t gather from the blog, nor did any of my fellow snoopy investigators on NeoGAF or Push Square seem to know for sure, whether the company is basing this statement on any kind of solid inside information or if it it’s simply an estimate.
Personally I’m not sure what to make of it. With PlayStation VR coming out in October I already thought it a bit strange for Sony to release its PS4 upgrade during the holiday season. Why would you want to compete with yourself and try to push two expensive pieces of hardware at the same time? A September release could potentially give consumers more time to assess whether or not they’d like to upgrade, assess any kind of trade-in offers, and prepare for VR with an upgraded console. I might also understand Neo preceding PSVR by a month in order for Sony to whip up some attractive, all-in-one bundles that contain a PS4 Neo, PSVR, PS4 camera, and two move controllers for a discounted price. Hopefully we’ll know for sure after E3 next month.
