Does Super Smash Bros. Have a Single-Player Mode?

Nintendo announced that Super Smash Bros. Brawl ’s singler-player campaign, The Subspace Emissary , would not be returning to the new Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U and 3DS. They said that they would, instead, be focusing on the VS. mode primarily. This sounds like a great idea, considering that the game is more well known for its tournament play at this point. While we know that Nintendo would rather the game be played in a casual context, it’s hard to deny that it had become a huge tournament sensation.

Then again, maybe Nintendo hasn’t told the whole truth. A new screenshot for the game has popped up on Miiverse, which shows off a stage that, we assume, would be part of a side-scrolling adventure mode. The stage is much larger than Mario, and involves a gap in the middle and two floating platforms. It also shows no edge. Either this is some sort of new single-player mode we haven’t yet heard about, or Nintendo is really fooling around with stage design.

The pic was given a subtitle, “where am I??” Sakura once again ensured fans that the new Smash will not feature a story mode, like The Subspace Emissary . So maybe single-player won’t have a story but will still feature platforming type stages. We will have to see when the game releases later this year.
