DOTA 2 Leaked. The Internet Goes Stupid.

DOTA 2 Leaked. The Internet Goes Stupid.

None

If you were one of the elite few who got an invite into Valve’s super-secret, super-private DOTA 2 beta, you’re a lot less special today: A Vietnamese tester went ahead and leaked the entire beta package onto the internet. Not much is known about the perpetrator currently, but we can probably assume that Valve nuked his Steam account shortly after the leak.

However, as with all Valve-related news, the Internet has spun it into a web of half-lies and wild speculation.

The most widely circulated rumor so far is regarding Valve’s vaporware-ish Half-Life 2: Episode 3. Some members of the community have pointed out that a few of the weapons have a naming-scheme that includes “ep3” in the title. Obviously, this is entirely speculation, but it is interesting considering that a few of the other elements include the words cstrike, dota, and tf. Evidently Valve is utilizing game titles in their file structure.

The leak also includes some of the characters’ back stories, a few of the game modes (Single Draft, All Random, Random Draft, Captains Draft, Captains Mode, Death Mode, and Easy Mode), as well as a gigantic caches of audio files (probably the majority, if not all, of the sounds in the game).

The community has also been speculating that the package contains information about the matchmaking system and the confirmation of a DOTA 2 storefront. However, it would probably be a bad idea to trust all of the rumors at this point. The Internet is full of stupid people.
