Final Fantasy Dimensions Opulently Priced; Worth It?

Final Fantasy Dimensions Opulently Priced; Worth It?

What’s the most you’ve ever spent on an iOS app? Odds are, if you’re a loyal Square Enix fan, you eschewed the dollar or two-dollar diversions, such as Angry Birds and Cut the Rope, in favor of RPG classics such as Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, and Final Fantasy Tactics. Or perhaps you’ve tried some of the company’s iOS originals, such as the Chaos Rings series. These titles all range in price from as low as eight dollars to almost $20, depending entirely on how much Square Enix feels like charging.

Now, Final Fantasy Dimensions, an episodic Final Fantasy adventure created specifically for mobile devices, is coming over to North America. It will hit at the end of the month, and the prologue is free. The first chapter? Only three dollars. Episodes two, three, and four, however, will cost ten dollars each. In total, that’s over $30, for a game that mostly reuses assets from prior Final Fantasy games. Seems a little absurd, no?

You can mitigate this, of course, by paying for the whole collection at once. That’ll set you back a mere $29. Suffice to say, the value seems lacking.
