Gabe Newell Announcer Pack Headed to Dota 2

Gabe Newell Announcer Pack Headed to Dota 2

The Dota 2 Battle Pass, which is $10 and part of how Valve funnels money into the enormous prize pool for its International event, includes an announcer voice pack that will likely drive tons of money in sales. That’s because Gabe Newell, Valve boss and beloved meme subject, is providing his voice for said announcer pack.

The official Dota 2 YouTube account released a silly skit, in place of a traditional trailer announcing Newell’s inclusion. In the video, he acts like participating in the voice recording session is the worst experience of his life. Of course, the voice lines in the game are much more fun and allude to Newell’s previous comments about the gaming industry, including his infamous piracy comment.

The International is running right now, through August 25, 2018. Currently, the prize pool is over $25 million, with $10 million to go to the winning team. So yeah, Valve sells a lot of those Battle Passes.
