Today a couple videos for Lost Planet 2 were launched via Xbox LIVE that depicted Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago of Gears of War fame battling a massive Akrid in the frozen wastes of E.D.N. III. Apparently, both heroes will be “customizable characters” in Capcom’s Lost Planet 2 according to a post on Capcom Unity. [Sound of record scratching in background] Say what? How could that be? For starters, what kind of a back-story are they going to devise? Moreover, why is E.D.N. III still frozen? Wait a minute; don’t tell me they’re going to be involved in a transitional chapter!
While I’m a fan of both Gears and Lost Planet, this seems like desperate marketing to me. I’ve got a feeling Cliffy and the rest of the crew at Epic are not really onboard with this. In any case, I’m sure Capcom can bank on an additional 500K units getting sold thanks to this revelation. Well, don’t let me color your perspective.
