Gears of War May Still Become a Movie

There’s news about the Gears of War movie (again)! Microsoft says it’s working with a major studio on the project (again)! Producers have been named (again)! It’s like we’ve stepped back in time to 2007.

Here’s what we know about this new possible Gears of War movie. Microsoft is working with Universal to make it. The two producers so far are Dylan Clark, who produced Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and War for the Planet of the Apes , as well as Scott Stuber: You, Me and Dupree, Couples Retreat, Battleship, Ted, and A Million Ways to Die in the West producer. There’s no information on who may or may not be writing a script yet, though Stuart Beattle, the writer behind Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and I, Frankenstein, was supposedly writing it back in 2013.

Forgive me if I’m pessimistic about this one. This movie was announced back in 2007. For the last nine years, it’s supposedly been in development. Studios, producers, writers, and directors were named. Nothing has ever come of it. This Gears of War movie could happen, sure, but I wouldn’t count on it.
