GTA III PSN Release Delayed

GTA III PSN Release Delayed

None

It’s rare for an eleventh hour delay to hit something as seemingly simple as a digital rerelease of a popular PlayStation 2 game on Sony’s PSN store, but that doesn’t mean it’s entirely unheard of. Enter Grand Theft Auto III, slated for a July 31 release as a PlayStation 2 Classic, following in the footsteps of its recent iOS release.

Today, though, the PlayStation Blog revealed that Rockstar’s oil-vein-strike of an open-world action game has been delayed. What’s the cause? The PlayStation Blog doesn’t outright state it in its post, but an administrator reveals, in comments beneath the article, that the cause of the issue is a music licensing problem. Given that Grand Theft Auto III had a diverse set of real-world tunes for its in-game radio stations, this is not wholly surprising; licensing for a suite of individual songs can be a labyrinthine and circuitous mess.

No word, as of yet, on when the game will see the light of day, but it’s unlikely to be long.
