Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock includes 13 playable characters. Some of these are carried over from previous editions, while others are new. Some characters (such as Midori) are completely original. Meanwhile, some of the real-life stars include Tom Morello.

There are three bonus characters you can unlock through Career Mode: Tom Morello, Slash, and Lou the Devil. In addition, each version of the game includes two exclusive characters.
