Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’s Launch Didn’t Top Pokemon Go

Reports on Harry Potter: Wizards Unite’ s launch are coming in, and it seems like it might not be any real competition for its sibling, Pokemon Go . The Niantic-developed, augmented reality mobile game did briefly take the number one spot for top free games, but figures coming in show it is paling in comparison.

Figures for the first 24 hours of each Niantic game were provided by Sensor Tour. When Harry Potter: Wizards Unite launched in the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand, it had over 400,000 installs in the first 24 hours. It also made about $300,000. To compare, 7.5 million people downloaded Pokemon Go in its 24 hours, and that only covered the US, Australia, and New Zealand. Revenue information for the first 24 hours wasn’t available, but Pokemon Go did make around $600 million in its first three months on the market.

On June 25, 2019, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite was only in fifth place on the iTunes charts. However, it was holding the top spot on Google PLay’s free game charts. A common early complaint is that people need Spell Energy for leveling up and tasks, but people can only get that from places designated as Inns. This is different from Pokemon Go , where the Poke Balls you need to play can be acquired from visiting any place designated as a Poke Stop or gym.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite is available for Android and Apple iOS devices. Since it only has just launched, there is plenty of time for it to grow and develop, perhaps into something a bit more robust.
