Hogwarts Legacy Summary

Hogwarts Legacy is an action RPG that takes place in the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Avalanche Software developed the game. The story unfolds in the 1800s, long before the events of the Harry Potter book and film series.

In the game, players wear the robes of a young wizard or witch who receives a late acceptance letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The game features a structured open-world structure where players attend classes, learn spells, complete quests, explore various locations, and uncover a unique storyline involving magical creatures, dark forces, and the mysteries of the Wizarding World.

Hogwarts Legacy has three endings: The good ending, the evil ending, and the true ending (or “secret ending” because players must meet certain conditions to unlock it). Whether or not the player gets the good or evil ending boils down to a single binary choice made near the end of the game.

This final choice is the same for all players, regardless of the other decisions made throughout the story – even if you’ve chosen to flirt with the Dark Arts. Right before your climactic showdown with Ranrok and his Goblin rebels, Professor Fig informs you that the Keepers locked away the Ancient Magic underneath Hogwarts, but it’s now yours to do with as you wish.

Here, you’ll have two choices. If you keep the Ancient Magic contained, you’ll trigger the “good” ending. If you answer that you plan to use the magic, Professor Fig will caution you against it. Then, answering anything other than “You’re right” will trigger the “evil” ending. Regardless of which path you choose, the result is mostly the same: You fight and defeat Ranrok, Professor Fig succumbs to his injuries, and you either seal the Ancient Magic away with Fig’s help (good ending) or absorb some of it into yourself and then seal it away (bad ending).

After the battle, some of your earlier choices come into play, particularly regarding your interactions with Sebastian Sallow and your choices during his quest line. However, a secret third ending to Hogwards Legacy – the co-called “true ending” – is also available. You only need to meet one condition to unlock it, and it’s not difficult to do. Read on.

The Hogwarts Legacy true ending takes place in addition to (and does not replace) the regular endings. It’s essentially an additional story mission that is available to the player at the conclusion of the game. To unlock the secret ending to Hogwarts Legacy, all the player must do is reach level 34, and it will be automatically available.

Reaching level 34 requires plenty of additional time and side-questing, but it’s very doable. Once you’ve reached level 34, feel free to continue with the story until its conclusion and choose either the good or evil endings as you normally would. You’ll unlock the true ending regardless of which path you follow.

The true ending quest, “The House Cup,” is available at the doorway leading to the Great Hall. We won’t spoil anything else for you – you’ll just have to get leveling and see how things play out with the secret ending to Hogwarts Legacy.

Hogwarts Legacy Tips and Tricks

The condition to unlock the Hogwarts Legacy true ending is not complex or overly difficult: All that’s required is that the player level up to 34. However, while this doesn’t mean you have to reach 100% completion, it does still require that you complete more side quests and additional activities than you would during a normal play-through. Don’t hesitate to take on any interesting side quests, as well as activities such as the Merlin Trials, to gain more experience.

Hogwarts Legacy Endings FAQ

Is there a special ending if I get to level 40?

No, there is no special ending if you get to level 40, which is the level cap for the game. The final quest that comprises the “secret ending” to Hogwarts Legacy is available once the player reaches level 34.

Can I learn the Killing Curse in Hogwarts Legacy?

Harry Potter fans already know of the existence of Unforgivable Curses, but one spell – the Killing Curse, Avada Kedavra – is perhaps the most unforgivable of all the Dark Arts. Aspiring Dark wizards and witches will be happy to know you can learn this curse in Hogwarts Legacy.

Can I learn Avada Kedavra without Sebastian?

The only way for players to fully attain Avada Kedavra is by learning the curse from Sebastian during the story. If you don’t follow the questline for this, Sebastian will no longer be available to teach the curse. However, Avada Kedavra can still be used in the Dark Arts Battle Arena, although it will only be available when in the arena.

Can I be a Dark Wizard in Hogwarts Legacy?

Although you can learn some of the Unforgivable Curses and even choose a “bad” ending, the game’s plot is set up so that the player character ultimately saves the day. There’s no option to truly become an actual Dark Wizard or villain in the story.

Whether you embrace goodness and justice or delve into the Dark Arts in the spellbinding realm of Hogwarts Legacy, your choices shape the journey. Players can choose from several different paths that reflect the decisions made throughout the story, with a satisfying secret ending awaiting the most intrepid wizards and witches. These divergent paths underscore the game’s immersive storytelling and reflect the complex moral choices one has to make in the Wizarding World.
