Is the Xbox One Too Big? Its Designer Says No.

Is the Xbox One Too Big? Its Designer Says No.

In this day and age, creating technology that is simultaneously more advanced yet smaller than its predecessor is not always an easy task. Some have criticized Microsoft for this very issue, suggesting the sheer size of the Xbox One makes it somewhat unappealing to the eye.

In a recent interview, Carl Ledbetter (who helmed the team responsible for the system’s initial design) blamed heating concerns as a major stumbling block preventing them from shrinking the hardware down. “…what we want is for everything to be wafer thin, not get hot and just be a snap to put together. But the reality is that there are very real issues around cooling when you’re pushing some number of watts in the processor, therefore the thing has to have some size to it.” he states.

Ledbetter also addresses some of the intricacies and fine touches found throughout the system that many folks likely never noticed before. For example, elements of its exterior mirror patterns found within the dashboard itself,  which the designer feels creates a “…very consistent and seamless experience that is reliable, so that when you see it, it is already starting to communicate aspects of the brand, and when you go into the user experience, it fulfills your expectations.”

Speaking of the Xbox One, now is a great time to invest in the next-gen! Due to Black Friday and other holiday pricing, you can pick up this awesome piece of gaming tech for as low as $329.99 this weekend (and that includes two Assassin’s Creed games bundled in as well)!
