Jump Into Kinect Fun Labs Immediately

None

Appearing today at Microsoft’s Pre-E3 press conference, Kinect enthusiast Kudo Tsunoda announced Kinect Fun Labs for the Xbox 360, available to all Xbox Live customers and launching today. Kinect Fun Labs is a forum of demonstration, featuring Kinect applications from both professional and independent developers. To demonstrate its range, three applications were shown on stage: People Scanning, Finger Tracking and Object Scanning.

People Scanning allows one to become one’s own avatar by posing for a quick snapshot of one’s head and hair, then one full-body shot. The resulting avatar not only possesses the same facial features and hairstyle as the user, but also maps his or her clothing, allowing one to show off favored or personal designs.

Finger Tracking is a means of three-dimensional artistic expression. Users will not only be able to take pictures of real world objects and view them from multiple angles, but also use their fingers to draw around them as Kinect tracks their motions not only by horizontal and vertical position, but also by distance from the sensor, adding depth to the proceedings.

Lastly, Object Scanning, much like People Scanning, enables a user to reproduce a real object on the Xbox by taking only a couple of pictures with the Kinect. Unlike People Scanning, rather than the object being mapped to an avatar, it is reproduced in its physical dimensions. Just how flexible this technology is has yet to be shown.

Kinect Fun Labs is available, today, to all Xbox Live users.
