Killzone 3’s Multiplayer Will Cost $0

Killzone 3’s Multiplayer Will Cost $0

None

This morning on Sony’s Blogcast, the developer announced plans to release Killzone 3’s multiplayer component as a free standalone download on the PSN Network. Sounds great, right? Well, you won’t actually get the entire multiplayer component. In fact, it’s more like a glorified multiplayer demo than anything.

Sure, you can download and play the all of the Killzone 3 multiplayer maps, but your level progression will be capped at a currently unspecified point. This means that any skills or weapons that may be out of reach when you hit the cap will remain that way until you shell out $14.99 for the full version.

I guess we can’t complain too much. After all, we are getting a more complete multiplayer experience than most demos, but it seems a little dishonest, on Sony’s part, to advertise that the multiplayer component is free of charge and then withhold key elements.

Either way, it’s a brilliant marketing move. Once players have finally reached the multiplayer cap, they probably won’t have any problem dropping the fifteen bucks in order to keep things rolling. Plus, anyone who’s looking for a casual multiplayer experience will become acquainted with the Killzone franchise free of charge.

All right, Sony. You win this round.
