We here at Cheat CC are scholars of gaming and, if you ask some of our writers which game character is “bae,” you might just end up with a long, long list of answers. True, we’ve written our share of lists about various women in games for whom we have a deep appreciation, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t also have a good idea of what eligible bachelors in gaming are either prime husband material or just fun for some people to look at. So, without further ado, and in the interest of being fair and balanced, here is a list of fan fiction and fantasy fuel for gamers who appreciate the male form.
Caution: there will be some light spoilers!
Vincent Valentine
Tragic sadguy hot is an important kind of hotness to represent in the list, and Vincent Valentine has this in spades. Without spoiling too much, Vincent fell in love with a woman, she loved him back, things didn’t turn out so great, and now he carries that pain with him. In Final Fantasy VII, a game full of tragedy, Vincent might just have the saddest story.
Additionally, he has that whole sexy vampire thing going for him. He’s sort of like a pale, goth Fabio.
Garrus Vakarian
This one was a surprise for me; I wasn’t expecting that anyone I polled would suggest Garrus as a notable certified hottie, but honestly, it isn’t an uncommon answer. I was surprised by the first time I heard it, shocked at the second, curious at the third, and amazed when a subsequent Google search revealed that this wasn’t necessarily a niche thing.
Garrus is an alien and ally in the Mass Effect, so I suppose I shouldn’t be too awfully surprised. That game takes care to make sure its characters are fully realized and Garrus is one of the available romance options. Similar to some of the female characters in the game, Garrus seems to prove aliens can be hot too. People seem attracted to his nerdiness, his responsible nature, and his role as a protector. His gripping plot and sexy voice are also contributing forces to the Garrus thirst. He’s also a bit of a sweetheart.
Dante
I don’t think Dante from the Devil May Cry franchise is too controversial a choice for this list. The debate is over which version of Dante is the hot one, and my research indicates that it is, by a large margin, the newest iteration that was created by the team at Ninja Theory for the reboot.
This version has the short, black hair and the Twilight-vampire style of face. He’s also somehow more believable as a person than his white haired counterpart, despite the insane aerial acrobatics and demon slaying prowess. He also feels a bit more fun and humorous than classic Dante, although they both have that rogueish charm.
Geralt of Rivia
It’s no secret that The Witcher 3 was a sexy game, and this seems to be true regardless of sexual orientation or gender; there’s a lot to look at in these games.
Geralt, the protagonist, is a ripped warrior who radiates worldly experience. He also looks like a cover model for a five dollar romance novel but, you know, in a good way? But most importantly, he has about him a sincere kindness that can sometimes get buried in machismo with other badass leading men. Oh, and he’s naked fairly often, so there’s that.
9S
Nier: Automata has a bit of a reputation for being a bit of a “horny” or “pervy” game. That might be a fair point. To its credit, its cast of characters seems to be enticing to a wide array of tastes.
“9S is best boy” says a friend of mine. I think a lot of people would tend to agree, too. He’s got that quintessentially cute anime look, complete with androgynous looks and white hair. He, like some of the other men on the list, is definitely kind. He’s a helpful guide, very intelligent, and certainly checks off all the boxes for his “type” of sexy.
