The Lego Movie was a huge hit, and it’s something that anyone, young or old, can enjoy. I think the thing that makes The Lego Movie such a cross-generational hit is the same thing that makes Adventure Time interesting to watch: there is plenty of goofy and juvenile humor and slapstick to go around, but there’s also a lot of more subtle, more mature humor that will go over the heads of younger audiences for the older folks to enjoy. The Lego Movie ‘s action and presentation are also top-notch, thanks to producer Roy Lee.
Roy Lee spoke yesterday at the DICE Summit, stating that he’d be very interested in producing a similar movie using Nintendo characters. “Zelda, Mario, the whole universe of characters, I feel like could be perfect for a Lego Movie -type movie. I don’t have the rights to it; I would love to. That’s my holy grail.” Very strong words from a very influential man in the industry; and in front of so many gaming bigwigs! Personally I’m really hoping that something comes of this, as I would love to see a well-produced, genuinely funny and action-packed movie starring an all-star cast of beloved Nintendo characters. Who knows, maybe by next summer we’ll have another big box office smash on our hands.
