Lemarchand Eschews Uncharted For School

Lemarchand Eschews Uncharted For School

None

For most of those in the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts, the goal is to get out of college and into the entertainment industry. For Naughty Dog’s Richard Lemarchand, co-lead designer on Uncharted 3 and studio mainstay for eight years, things appear to be working in reverse.

Breaking from Naughty Dog, Lemarchand will be teaching in the college’s Interactive Media Division, where he is excited to be talking craft and philosophy with other bright minds in the field. Lemarchand, as a key member of the Uncharted team, is probably in the best possible place to provide insight into the link between games and films, the Uncharted series borrowing so much from that more traditional of media for both cinematic impact and plot structure.

For those interested in entering the gaming field, who are perhaps finishing high school as we speak and looking for a program that can help them get a foot in the door, it appears that one could certainly do worse than USC and Richard Lemarchand.
