LittleBigPlanet Delayed Worldwide; New North American Release Date Announced

None

Sony has decided to recall all copies of LittleBigPlanet from retailers worldwide, as phrases from the Koran were inadvertently included in the platformer. Consequently, the North American release date is now set for Monday, October 27.

During the Singing Safari level, SCEA stated “the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur’an.”

GameSpot translated the phrases from the Arabic as “Every soul shall have the taste of death” and “All that is on earth will perish.”

Sony apologizes for any offense they may have caused and has promised that the oversight will be rectified.

Here’s the official comment posted on the PlayStation blog:

“During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur’an. We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologize for any offense that this may have caused.”

“We will begin shipping LittleBigPlanet to retail in North America the week of October 27th. Sorry for the delay, and rest assured, we are doing everything we can to get LittleBigPlanet to you as soon as possible.”
