Manhunt 2 Causes Senators to Question ESRB

Manhunt 2 Causes Senators to Question ESRB

None

Four prominent U.S. senators are calling for a review of the ESRB’s rating system in light of the Manhunt 2 controversy, sparking what could become another spotlight on the gaming industry.

Senators Hillary Clinton, Joe Lieberman, Evan Bayh, and Sam Brownback sent a letter to ESRB president Patricia Vance calling for a review of the ESRB rating system after the ESRB assigned an M rating to a revised Manhunt 2.

“[The ESRB] reduced the revised version’s rating to “Mature,” effectively opening the door to its widespread distribution and its licensing approval by game system manufacturers Sony and Nintendo.” the letter states.

The letter continues, proposing that “it is time to review the robustness, reliability and repeatability of your ratings process, particularly for this genre of ‘ultra-violent’ videogames and advances in game controllers.”
