Unlockables
Successfully complete the indicated task to unlock the corresponding bonus. Note: Cheats can be enabled when replaying any level through the “Level Select” option. Enabling cheats will prevent achievements from being earned.
- Alternate costumes: Successfully complete Story mode on the Medium or higher difficulty to unlock fifteen of Max’s costumes from the storyline.
- “Character Select” option in Arcade mode: Successfully complete Story mode on the Medium difficulty.
- Classic/Old School Max Black and White: Get a “Platinum” rank on all chapters in New York Minute mode.
- Hardcore difficulty: Successfully complete Story mode on the Hard difficulty.

Chapter 1
Golden PT92 Part #1: It is on the left side of the corridor near the window, immediately after the tutorial finishes.
Golden PT92 Part #2: After you take the elevator down from the lobby, it is on the right side of the hallway, near the plants next to the window.
Golden PT92 Part #3: In the second area of the garage, after opening the first gate, it is on the right side of the B01 parking space.
Chapter 2
Golden .38 Revolver Part #1: It is in the starting area, behind the DJ’s desk. Clear the room, then climb the desk to retrieve it.
Golden Mini-30 Part #1: It is behind the bar in the VIP area.
Golden .38 Revolver Part #2: When you come across the club’s owner, it is to the left, behind the DJ’s desk. To reach it, follow the stairs to the left and through the doors.
Golden Mini-30 Part #2: When you enter the club’s lounge after exiting the kitchen, you will be in a round room. It is in the central area of this room, on one of the tables.
Golden Mini-30 Part #3: When the chase resumes after the helicopter shoot-out, drop down the stairs of the helipad, and turn right to enter a small room. It is on the floor near a white couch.
Golden .38 Revolver Part #3: As you are chasing Fabiana on the roof, you will come across a large red sign placed on a platform, which you will have to go around. It is on the far side of this platform.
Chapter 3
Golden M10 Part #1: It is in the recording room, next to the camera, on the floor. The recording room is near the area where you find the injured gangster whom you investigate.
Golden M2A1 Part #1: It is in the souvenirs’ room, by the stand. Its location is marked by a large poster of a football team.
Golden M10 Part #2: When Passos kills the first sniper and is covering you, check the lower row of the tribune to find it.
Golden M10 Part #3: It is in the trophy room, to the left, behind the VIP seats by the window.
Golden M2A1 Part #2: When you attempt to reach the other side of the tribune, drop down and search the left side of the tribune to find it behind a corner. You must be very quick while retrieving it, or Passos will run out of ammo and you will die.
Golden M2A1 Part #3: After finding out the whereabouts of Fabiana and you are going to kill the second sniper, you will come across another tribune you must cross to reach the tower. Go upstairs and turn right to find it at the end of the row, in the corner. You must move from cover to cover or else you will get sniped.
Chapter 4
Golden 1911 Part #1: It is at the start of the chapter, in the bar. Clear the area, and search behind the last couch.
Golden 1911 Part #2: Take the stairs near the pool table, leading to the corridor to the left to find it.
Golden 1911 Part #3: After exiting the bar and clearing the backyard, return to where you started. Look under the stairs that took you outside the bar to find it.
Golden M500 Part #1: It is inside Max’s apartment, near the table by the window.
Golden SAF 40 CAL Part #1: When you are escaping the building, you will come across an area destroyed by Brewer’s explosion. To the right is an apartment, by the stairs. Search the apartment to find it on the floor near the refrigerator.
Golden M500 Part #2: When you reach the roof, clear it, then turn right from the entrance. Turn right again to reach the dead-end. Look on the floor to find it.
Golden SAF 40 CAL Part #2: After you fall down from the Water Tower for a quick-time-event, Passos will appear and ask you to follow him. Instead of following him, turn left, and explore the far side of the roof. It is to the right, near the dead-end.
Golden M500 Part #3: Look for a hidden corridor to your left on the second floor of the damaged building. It is recommended you first clear the area, and then look for the corridor, behind the wall to find it.
Golden SAF 40 CAL Part #3: After clearing the garage, search the room to your left to find it on the desk.
Chapter 5
Golden Micro 9MM Part #1: After exiting the second hangar, go right, and follow the dirt path. It is on top of the crates you come across. Climb the crates to find it.
Golden Micro 9MM Part #2: After the exiting the hangar where Fabiana was tortured, go straight, then turn around. It is near the fence, around the corner of the building.
Golden Micro 9MM Part #3: When you encounter the enemies in the garage and see Fabiana being rushed out, first kill the enemies, then search the upper platform to find it.
Golden LMG .30 Part #1: After exiting the garage, through the courtyard you will enter another building. In the backroom of this building are several containers. It is in one of the containers.
Golden LMG .30 Part #2: After crossing the docks and clearing the first area, go through the gate, and you will come across a shack in front of you. Go inside to find it behind the barrels.
Golden LMG .30 Part #3: After activating the walkway, go to the docks, and to the left, look for a small office. Go around it, and follow the platforms to reach another dead-end and find the part.
Chapter 6
Golden MD-97L Part #1: Once you are in control of Max Payne, kill the enemies in the center, then search the office to your left to find it behind the desk.
Golden MD-97L Part #2: Restore the security system, then go to Bronco’s office, through the garden. After talking to Bronco (Rodrigo), turn around, and look for it by the waterfall, on the ground.
Golden MD-97L Part #3: In the lobby, investigate the model stand to your right. Break the glass to retrieve it.
Chapter 7
Golden Sawn-Off Part #1: Search the bathroom of the Striptease to find it.
Golden Sawn-Off Part #2: After the QTE when you are coming down while fighting enemies, look left behind a door to find it.
Golden SPAS-15 Part #1: Look for some crates near a door to your left after reaching the other side of the hangar. It is behind the crates.
Golden SPAS-15 Part #2: After you go through a gate that triggers a cutscene, look for the iron platforms to your right. It is behind the platforms.
Golden SPAS-15 Part #3: After jumping off the ledge, it is behind the wall. In front of it is a shrine (wall). If you come across the Claudio Shrine first, turn around to find it at the end of the street.
Golden Sawn-Off Part #3: After being captured and killing the enemies, just before the exit through the stairs, look on your left to find it.
Chapter 8
Golden Auto 9MM Part #1: After you meet Passos in the cemetery, you will come across stairs. On the right side of these stairs, are crypts. It is in front of them.
Golden 608 Bull Part #1: Kill the enemies near the car. It is on the right side of the Mausoleum that is higher than the others.
Golden Auto 9MM Part #2: When you come across a bunch of urns around you, take the corridor to your right. It is at the end, replacing an urn.
Golden 608 Bull Part #2: After saving Passos and killing the enemies around the tomb, look for it by the sarcophagus.
Golden Auto 9MM Part #3: After escaping the area where your grave was, turn left and into the building. To your right is a small chamber. It is on the floor.
Golden 608 Bull Part #3: After the cutscene in the church, it is on the floor under the priest’s desk, right in front of you.
Chapter 9
Golden DE .50 Part #1: After the second cutscene and killing the paramilitary units that you encounter afterwards, take the stairs down and to your left. Look for a house where the second floor has been destroyed and first one is green. Search the entrance of this house to find it.
Golden M972 Part #1: After encountering a dead body on the stairs and while making your way to the next street, you will come across a woman that runs away from you, and locks herself in the room. Search the bathroom to find it. It is the building where Max walks slow.
Golden M972 Part #2: After falling through the roof once you have completed the helicopter QTE, you will exit the building. It is to the left side of the street, next to stairs.
Golden DE .50 Part #2: After you see paramilitaries escorting the residents, from the backyard, to your left, look for the two tires and a wheel. It is behind them.
Golden M972 Part #3: When you reach the dead-end after crossing the house with green carpet at the door, look to your left on the ground to find it.
Golden DE .50 Part #3: After crossing the balcony and reaching the other side of the street, you will come across a wooden bridge. In front of it is a hidden area. Enter it using the gate to the left. It is on the ground.
Chapter 10
Golden FAL Part #1: At the start of the chapter when you kill the snipers on the roof, look for it to the right of the junkyard, by the bus without the roof.
Golden M4 Super 90 Part #1: Enter the cabin inside the garage to find it.
Golden M4 Super 90 Part #2: Exit the paint booth after saving Giovanna. Instead of following the stairs, check the workbench to find it.
Golden FAL Part #2: After clearing the next area, search the bus to find it.
Golden M4 Super 90 Part #3: Once you are inside the next building and clearing the second floor, locate the office on the far side to the right. It is on the table next to the desk.
Golden FAL Part #3: After reaching the ground floor, take out the paramilitary guy, then explore the office he came out. It is behind the desk.
Chapter 11
Golden Super Sport Part #1: Make your way to the backroom through the restaurant and kitchen. Once inside, search the ground to find it.
Golden Super Sport Part #2: After clearing the upper deck, go to the dead-end on your right. It is on the floor.
Golden AK-47 Part #1: When you reach the upper bridge and cross the bar, you will hear Max whine about checking every inch of the boat after the two doors open, leading you to the bridge. Instead of going upstairs, look for a painting to your left with a hidden safe. Take the picture off the wall. Open the safe to find it. Then, exit and go straight towards the docks.
Golden AK-47 Part #2: After entering the docks area, turn left. Clear the tower enemies, then go to the dead-end to find it.
Golden Super Sport Part #3: Clear the landing area after crossing the canal, then turn left and right, to the corner by the entrance to find it.
Golden AK-47 Part #3: After opening the security door, take the stairs to the second floor. At the entrance, look for a small balcony down to your right. This is where it is located.
Chapter 12
Golden RPG Part #1: On the second floor of the destroyed building, search the bathroom to your left to find it.
Golden FMP G3S Part #1: During the firefights on the second floor of the building, you will come across a hallway on your left and a room on your right. Look for a crate in the hallway. It is behind it.
Golden RPG Part #2: When you are on the second floor, in the hallway, search the first room to your right. It is by the destroyed wall.
Golden FMP G3S Part #2: In the starting area of the third floor, kill the nearby enemies, and check the desk to the right of the room. Search the area behind it to find it.
Golden FMP G3S Part #3: In the next area that you enter after the cutscene showing Serrano and the doctor, search the right side, and look for a brown couch. It is behind it.
Golden RPG Part #3: After escaping the snipers in the building across the street, take the next gate, and clear the area. From the entrance, turn right to the side of the destroyed balcony, and look for it near the wall.
Chapter 13
Golden MPK Part #1: After escaping the starting area, you will reach the prison through the corridor. When you do, turn left towards a small shelf to find it.
Golden Law Part #1: In the prison, on the ground, behind the wall. Turn right when you enter the prison to find it.
Golden Law Part #2: After entering the police station again (after destroying the armored vehicle and killing the cops), look for a trash container to the left of the entrance. It is behind it.
Golden G6 Commando Part #1: Make your way through the building and exit. Kill the cops, and turn right. You will come across a small wall. Search the ground behind the wall to find it.
Golden MPK Part #2: It is inside the showering area of the training room.
Golden G6 Commando Part #2: Search the kitchen in the next area. It is under the serving desk.
Golden G6 Commando Part #3: After getting the previous part, cross the hallway, and search the office to your right. It is on the ground.
Golden MPK Part 3 Location: Cross the hallway into the conference room after getting the previous part. Turn right as you enter, and search the area to find it.
Golden Law Part #3: During the fight in the training area, you will enter the targeting zone. After you clear the area, turn left from the entrance to find it on the floor.
Chapter 14
Golden Rotary Grenade Launcher Part #1: After clearing the first area, look for it on the platform of the luggage loader.
Golden Rotary Grenade Launcher Part #2: After getting the first part, take the stairs up to the next floor. From the entrance, turn right, and you should see the part. Go around the platforms to get it.
Golden Rotary Grenade Launcher Part #3: It is in the showering area of the bathroom.
Golden RPD Part #1: It is at the end of the balcony, to the left of the terminals’ area of the second floor.
Golden RPD Part #2: After clearing the terminal, search the left side of the ground floor, near the exit. It is behind a small desk, to the left while facing the exit.
Golden RPD Part #3: When the train stops, check the backside of the train. It is on the floor.
Clue locations
Search the indicated locations to find all clues:
Chapter 1
Clue #1 – Celebrity Magazine: It is on the table of the living room, next to the sofa, with lot of wine bottles to the left.
Clue #2 – Dropped Photo: While following Rodrigo (attempt to save him) when you exit the garage, look for it on the floor.
Chapter 2
Clue #1 – Dead Soccer Star: Look for a corpse in white lying on the floor. It is in the VIP section of the club, to the left, by the stairs, behind a small table.
Clue #2 – Night-Club Flyer: It is in the VIP lounge, on the right side of the bar, while facing the stairs leading to the next floor.
Clue #3 – Ex-Cop: When you exit through a door, taking you through the bathroom after you clear the second floor of the club, you will come across three doors, but only one is free. Open it to find an ex-cop hiding.
Clue #4 – Torn Dress Piece: In the same bathroom as above, search the right corner of the sink to find it.
Clue #5 – Portuguese Newspaper: When you enter the kitchen after clearing the area, search the right side to find it by the radio.
Clue #6 – Giovanna’s Necklace: After clearing the roof, continue inside the building. When you are coming down the stairs, look on the ground to find it.
Chapter 3
Clue #1 – Picture Of Victor: After clearing the first area in the stadium, search the office next to the medical office. Look on the right to find it on the wall.
Clue #2 – Blood Stained Door: While following Passos, when you come across the first elevator, look left for a white door. The bloodstain is on the door.
Clue #3 – Blood Stained Hallway: After escaping the first sniper, follow the tunnel to the right. Clear the hallway, then look for a bloodstain on one of the pillars.
Clue #4 – Soccer Star Memorial: In the trophy room, it is near where you exit the area.
Chapter 4
Clue #1 – Max’s NYPD Badge: Look for a small table by the window in Max Payne’s apartment. It is on the table.
Clue #2 and #3 – Brewer’s Journal, Newspaper Clippings: After escaping the snipers, when a pirate guy sacrifices himself to save you, get into his apartment to search for clues. One is on a work table and another is near the entrance of the bathroom.
Chapter 5
Clue #1 – Parked Helicopter: At the start of the chapter, follow the dirt path. The helicopter is in the courtyard while standing behind the fence.
Clue #2 – Ransom Note: Look for it next to the TV where you watch the recording of Fabiana.
Clue #3 – Video Camera: After reaching the hangar where they tortured Fabiana, examine the video camera.
Clue #4 – Branco Family Photo: When you see Fabiana being rushed out in the garage, get into the room under the upper platform. It is the room where you push the button on the wall, allowing you to exit the hangar. It is on the table, to the left.
Clue #5 – Boathouse Newspaper: Exit the garage, and cross the courtyard to enter another building. You will notice a poker table next to cage. It is inside the cage, on the floor. Turn around and enter the room located in the same building.
Clue #6 – Nightclub Floor Plans: Open the door to the room mentioned above to find a table in front of you. It is on that table.
Chapter 6
Clue #1 – File On Fabiana: At the start of the chapter, look for it in an office to your right.
Clue #2 – Rodrigo’s Email: After retrieving the file, look for a laptop by the desk, to your left. Check the email on this laptop.
Clue #3 – Architectural Models: Examine the model on your left in the conference room.
Clue #4 – School Pictures: On the right of the hallway are three school pictures. Examine the pictures to get an insight into the case.
Clue #5 – Dead IT Guy: After disarming the terrorist, search the corpse behind him for a clue.
Chapter 7
Clue #1 – Ex-Cop: The ex-cop is in the bathroom of the club, in the first chapter while searching for a phone and gun on the streets.
Clue #2 – Photo Of Serrano: After finding intel on Neves and Milo Rego from Wilson Da Silva at the Striptease Bar, you will be attacked. After killing the enemies, look at the picture Mr. Da Silva left behind.
Clue #3 – Tourist: Search the room to your left, near the exit, to find a tourist under the bed. Interacting with him will trigger a cutscene.
Clue #4 – Lower Gang Spray Tag: When you come across a locked blue-door, look for a graffiti painting to your left with a gang tag. Examine it for the clue.
Clue #5 – Middle Gang Spray Tag: After exiting the train car, look for the clue behind a large gate. It is a painting of three armed gangsters.
Clue #6 – Shrine To Claudio: You will come across it while moving through the streets. It is basically a wall paying homage to Claudio.
Clue #7 – Flyer Of Giovanna: When you reach the backyard after clearing the enemies on the rooftops, it is on the ground, to the right.
Clue #8 – Bag Of Oxidado: After the cutscene in which Max notices gang members having a party, get into the house, and look for some drugs near the door.
Clue #9 – Upper Gang Spray Tag: After destroying the drug lab and returning to the streets, look for another graffiti on the wall.
Chapter 8
Clue #1 – Valerie’s Tombstone: On the right of the iron gate is a tombstone. Examine the urn on top of this stone.
Clue #2 – Nicole Mausoleum: After rescuing Passos, look around for the mausoleum.
Clue #3 – Vinnie’s Tombstone: After the cutscene in which Max digs his grave, kill everyone in this area, and then look for the mausoleum. It is newer than the others.
Chapter 9
Clue #1 – Dead Gang Members: The dead gang members are in the first building you enter.
Clue #2 – Dead UFE Members: Examine the body you come across while moving through the stairs as you advance to the next street.
Clue #3 – Dead Residents: Examine the body of the resident the cop executed.
Chapter 10
Clue #1 – Office Newspaper: After opening the gate to the next area, follow Giovanna, and clear the yard. Check the office to your right near the gates. It is on the desk.
Clue #2 – Ad Campaign Poster: It is a large poster of Camila Machado at the bottom of the stairs.
Chapter 11
Clue #1 – Notes On Max: When the chapter starts, clear the perimeter, and cross the hallway to get to the other room. It is on the cabinet near the shower.
Clue #2 – Passos’ Bed: When you enter Passos’ room, you can find it near the bed.
Clue #3 – Blood Trail: You will open a hatch after you escape from the engines’ room. Before going outside, look for the stain of blood on the floor for the clue.
Clue #4 – Discarded Newspaper: The place where you take out the three pirates near the wall is a round table. The newspaper is on it. Look at it first, then take a look at the wall.
Clue #5 – Pried Wall: You will find the next clue right where you found the previous one. Just examine the broken wall by the pirates to find it.
Clue #6 – Daphne’s Passport: When you are at the designated hallway, it is in the very first room to the right side, on the table.
Clue #7 – Daphne’s Jewelry Box: Go to the bedroom at the end of the hallway (watch out for the enemies), and look it on the shelf.
Clue #8 – Center Display: It is after you climb up the stairs. Examine the two statues.
Chapter 12
Clue #1 – Gurney: Immediately after the cutscene, examine the beds.
Clue #2 – Ammo Crate: After collecting the first clue, keep moving forward, and when you get to the deposit, enter the room to the left. Examine the brown crate on the ground.
Clue #3 – Wall Photos: From the first ledge, go right. They are inside a room hanging on the wall.
Clue #4 – Passos’ ID Card: In the same room where you found the previous clue, examine the piece of paper near the couch. Then, go up to the third floor by breaking the door at the end of the hallway.
Clue #5 – Newspaper Article: After reaching the restaurant, examine the bar on the left side to read the newspaper.
Clue #6 – Donation Receipt: Go back to the room where you got the C4 to find it on the shelf.
Chapter 13
Clue #1 – Tourist: Talk to the tourist in the prison.
Clue #2 – Prison Log: Once you have killed the police officers, go inside to find it on the other side.
Clue #3 – Promissory: From the kitchen hallway, go to the office to find it on the table.
Clue #4 – Political Folder: On the fifth floor, when you are at second checkpoint, search the office on the right side to find it.
Clue #5 – E-File On Da Silva: The laptop is in the same office room where you found the clue above.
Clue #6 – Flak Vest: After the QTE related to snipers, do not open the security until you have examined the flak vest in the locker beside it.
Chapter 14
Clue #1 – Ex-Cop: Search the bathroom (while moving through the hallways) to find the Ex-Cop sitting inside.
Easy “Amidst The Wreckage” achievement
Around the middle of Chapter 6, destroy the five models in the boardroom to get the “Amidst The Wreckage” achievement.
Easy “Out The Window” achievement
At the beginning of Chapter 2, get six kills while diving through the VIP window. Move the reticule slower when it gets close to an enemy, then move it faster when going to the next enemy. If you fail to get the “Out The Window” achievement, keep restarting from the checkpoint until you get it.
Easy “So Much For Being Subtle” achievement
Around the middle of Chapter 7, shoot nine enemies while being pulled by the chain. The enemies closest to you should die with just one bullet to the chest, but the last few farther away may require focus to get a headshot. If you fail to get the “So Much For Being Subtle” achievement, keep restarting from the checkpoint until you get it.
Easy “Sometimes You Get Lucky” achievement
At the end of Chapter 12 (approximately 15 seconds after you restart the checkpoint), run towards the nearest enemy. You should be right in the enemy’s face when the tremor starts, giving you a larger area to get a headshot. Either the enemies will damage you enough so you enter sudden death and everything will slow down automatically, or you must shoot dodge to slow down time. Keep getting close to the enemy to increase your chance of shooting him in the head. If you fail to get a headshot, keep restarting from the checkpoint until you get the “Sometimes You Get Lucky” achievement.
Easy “The Only Choice Given” achievement
In Chapter 10, while hanging from the chain, shoot eight enemies. If you fail to get “The Only Choice Given” achievement, keep restarting from the checkpoint until you get it.
