Microsoft Explains Delay to Sharing Screenshots on Xbox One

Microsoft’s dashboard updtate for Xbox One, the New Xbox One Experience, went live today. This update made performance faster for gamers, and also added a bunch of backwards compatibility for Xbox 360 games. As welcome as the update has generally been, users were still disappointed by the way screenshots and clips are handled on the platform. In particular, they’re upset with how long it takes to share them online.

Director of program management, Mike Ybarra, responded to questions on the topic via Twitter. He explained that Microsoft liked to monitor what gets posted. “We have to review them to make sure they’re appropriate for Xbox Live (you would be surprised with what we get,)” he said. Somehow, I don’t think we’d really be all that surprised.

Microsoft’s policy regarding the sharing of screenshots and video clips are in stark contrast with Sony’s PS4, which is a veritable sharing machine, allowing players to instantly share their media to Youtube, Twitch, Ustream, Twitter, Facebook, or community posts.
