Minecraft 1.8 Spills All Over The Internet

Minecraft 1.8 Spills All Over The Internet

The Minecraft team had a little “oops” moment this weekend, as Jens “Jeb” Bergensten accidentally leaked the 1.8 version of Minecraft. Yes, this is the greatly anticipated “Adventure Update,” which includes a brand new game mode, three new mobs, a bunch of new crafting recipes, and a whole lot more.

Instead of being too upset about the whole thing, though, Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Perrson told his Twitter followers, “If you do use it, remember to report bugs, and to feel slightly bad.” He followed this up with, “(I am fine with you using it. Make sure you get it from the leaked url we are hosting, though).”

Ever since, Jeb’s been busy working on all the bugs that have been reported since the leak happened. According to fans who have downloaded version 1.8, these are quite plentiful. There’s no “official” release date for the Adventure Update, but the team wants to make sure they get these bugs good and squashed first. In the tweeted words of Jeb himself, “the current status of 1.8 is that I’m trying to fix the reported bugs of pre-1.8. It’s hard to say how long time this will take.”

Minecraft has had an enormous amount of players logging in over the weekend, presumably because of the hype surrounding the leak. According to Mojang’s Carl Manneh, “This weekend we had 8 million sign-ins in 24hrs.” So in the end, Minecraft gets more hype, fans get an early treat, and bugs get fixed. It’s win-win-win for everyone who loves Minecraft.
