Miyamoto Says Nintendo Isn’t Working on Dual Gamepad Games

Miyamoto Says Nintendo Isn’t Working on Dual Gamepad Games

One of the big problems that gamers had with the Wii U when it first came out was the fact that you could only connect one Wii U GamePad to the console. That means that all multiplayer games would need to be controlled with Wiimotes or Pro Controllers. This didn’t particularly sit well with Nintendo fans as it felt like the company was pigeonholing their key gameplay design into single-player games only. So Nintendo said that gamers will be able to connect two gamepads to the system instead.

Unfortunately, this hasn’t exactly done anything for us as every game that has come out has only supported one gamepad up until now. So what’s the deal? Where are our dual gamepad games?

According to Miyamoto, Nintendo simply isn’t working on them. “Certainly as we’ve been working on Wii U, I think we’re at a point where we don’t feel it’s realistic to expect people to purchase two GamePads yet,” Miyamoto told IGN.

“We’re still trying to get as many people as possible to buy the system itself, and that’s where our focus is right now. For the time being, two GamePad gameplay is not within our objectives in the short-term.”

In theory, that’s probably a good policy, but doesn’t that kind of mean that Nintendo directly lied to us? Or at least fudged the truth a little bit. There are definitely some people out there who went to extremes to get a new gamepad off eBay or something that are kicking themselves right now.
