More Wii U Details Emerge

None

In the weeks following the unveiling of the Wii U, we’ve been getting a steady trickle of information about what this new console will actually be capable of and what sort of features we can expect form it. Today, we got updates on two small features that are in the works for the Wii U.

First up, there will be 3D capability. Though the controller won’t support 3D like the 3DS does, the console could support 3D games on 3D TVs. This is big news, as the PlayStation 3 is the only current console that can support gaming on a 3D television. Before you get too excited, Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata said that 3D gaming on the Wii U is not a “focus” for Nintendo, and it will be up to third parties to use the feature if they want to incorporate 3D elements in their games.

The second bit of news comes from Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime, who recently said in an interview that the Wii U controller could “theoretically” be used to stream Netflix content. When pressed for clarification, Reggie declined to comment. Netflix streaming seems like a logical feature for the Wii U controller, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see official confirmation of this feature before the console’s launch next year.
