New Death Stranding Trailer Revels in the Macabre

The Game Awards 2016 took place last night, bringing with it a smattering of announcements and new trailers for next year’s most highly-anticipated titles. One of the biggest reveals was a new cinematic trailer for Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding . It’s just as bizarre and unsettling as the first, giving us a better look at the game’s cast and macabre world.

In the video, a character who looks like visionary director Guillermo del Toro – a friend of Hideo Kojima’s – flees into a city holding a strange capsule. We see him hiding from military weaponry, like tanks and planes, that appear to be part-Lovecraftian monstrosities, with bulging veins and writhing tentacles. Del Toro’s character is revealed to be carrying a baby (presumably the one from the previous trailer) inside his capsule, and his path is ultimately blocked by a squad of skeletal soldiers led by a villain resembling actor Mads Mikkelsen.

It’s a supremely creepy, atmospheric video, and one that has our collective interest rapidly rising in spite of Death Stranding still not having a release date. Check it out for yourself and let us know what you think:
